Frequently Asked Questions
Is vaping safer than smoking?
Public health England recently released findings that state that vaping is 95% safer than smoking. However scientific studies into the health effects of vaping are ongoing, so we still cannot say anything for sure.
Will I save money?
Totally Wicked calculates that you can save up to £2600 a year by making the switch to vaping. This is based on the average cost of a packet of 20 branded cigarettes, which is about £8.50, and if you smoke a pack a day.
Is there any passive smoking with vaping?
As you are inhaling and exhaling vapour, there is no passive “smoking” from vaping. Recent studies have shown that the risk of passive vaping is very low.
What age can I vape from?
Totally Wicked have always operated a very strict 18+ policy. It’s now also illegal to supply vaping products to anyone under 18.
What is variable voltage?
This allows you to add another level to your vaping experience by giving control to the amount of voltage available to your atomizer head.
What is variable wattage?
Like variable voltage, this allows you to control the power to your atomizer head. Controlling the wattage is easier than voltage
What is variable temperature?
Variable temperature is the very latest in e-cig and vape technology. Specially designed coils are used to set a target temperature on your variable temperature device. Previously, lack of temperature control meant that coils could surpass their heat limits and work much hotter than is ideal. Variable temperature reduces this risk drastically.
What is pass-through charging?
This is the ability to vape on your e-cig while it is still on charge. Visit one of our stores at Totally Wicked Stockport to see our wide range of batteries with pass-through capability.
What is a box mod?
This is as simple as it sounds, an e-cig in the shape of a box. You can see our blog on the Arc range of e-cigs to get an idea.
What is sub-ohm vaping?
Generally, the lower the ohm’s of your e-cig, the more the vapour and flavour. Sub-ohm vaping is an e-cig with the ability to vape below 1.0 ohm.
What is a mechanical mod?
This is the e-cigarette at its most basic. A battery tube, which is connected to your atomizer, completing a circuit that can be activated with a switch. This is an advanced vaping activity, so make sure you read up on batter safety and ohms law before attempting.
Will an e-cig prevent me from smoking?
Vaping is an alternative source of nicotine for smokers, however we do not promote e-cigarettes as devices to prevent smoking.
How long will my atomizer last?
This is entirely dependent on the type of head, the settings you are using and how often you are vaping. They do not last forever and normally within a week or two should need replacing. Obviously this time is shorter if you are vaping at high powers.
Why are there so many different types?
There is a great degree of versatility in the atomizer world. This is due to the personal choice that people demand, with some needing higher resistance, and others wanting variable temperature devices. Visit us in store in Heaton Chapel, Great Moor or Edgeley to find an atomizer that is right for you.
Why is my atomizer cracking and popping?
This is absolutely normal. It is simply the process of your atomizer heating up and vaporising your e-liquid.
When should I change my atomizer head?
If you are experiencing less vapour productions, constant flooding of your tank, and a gurgling accompanied by a slightly burnt taste then you likely need to change your atomizer head.
What is a sub-ohm atomizer?
Generally, the lower the ohm’s of your e-cig, the more the vapour and flavour. Sub-ohm atomizers have a resistance below 1.0 ohm.
What tank should I use?
This is completely down to personal preference. Need a large tank that requires less refilling? Or maybe something smaller? Visit us at one of our Heaton Chapel, Great Moor and Edgeley stores to find a tank that is perfect for your vape kit.
Will my tank work on every e-cig

What is a removable battery?
This is a battery that can be removed from the device, this allows you to have a spare that is already charged with you at all times.
Why is the LED light on my e-cig flashing?
This can be one of a number of issues. Your battery may need charging, or your atomizer may not be connected correctly. If this problem persists, pop in store to one of our Heaton Chapel, Great Moor or Edgeley locations and our friendly team will endeavour to fix your issue.
How long will my battery last?
This is entirely dependent on how much you’re vaping, what your e-cig settings are, and the capacity of your vape kit’s battery.
Will I ever need to replace my battery?

What strength e-liquid should I use?
This is something that is completely personal preference. The general rule is if you’re a new starter smoking 20 a day, then you should start around the 18mg/ml. You should lower your nicotine if you decide to take up sub-ohm vaping. The best bet is to try a variety, or visit our teams in our three Stockport locations, who’ll find an e-liquid to suit you.

Why won’t my battery charge?
Your first port of call if your battery isn’t charging is to check the charger isn’t damaged. If it looks fine, then you want to move on to making sure there is no e-liquid in your charging point, as well as checking your equipment is correct. Ensure that you are using a designated e-cig plug adaptor or the correct USB cable.
If you find that all of these things are fine, then contact our customer service team at 0161 241 2411 and they’ll be happy to help in any way they can. The great news is that all our chargers come with a 12 month warranty against manufacturer’s faults.
Why is my tank leaking?
Our first recommendation here would be to check the age of your atomizer – leakage can be a sign that it is reaching the end of its natural life.
If that’s not the case though, you’re probably drawing on the tank too hard. This draws too much e-liquid into the atomizer, meaning it isn’t vaporised properly. To prevent this, take a slow draw of between 3-5 seconds.

Why am I not getting any vapour?
A lack of vapour can be caused by a number of things. First, ensure that your atomizer head doesn’t need replacing, and that your battery is fully charged. Once these things are sorted, take a slow steady draw. If you still find that you’re not getting any vapour at this point then check that your settings are optimised for the atomizer head that you have installed. You can do this by yourself, with our online experts, or pop instore to speak to our team of cloud chasers.
If none of these things help, then give our customer service number a call at: 0161 241 2411.
I have a burning taste, what should I do?
No one wants a vape that tastes of burning, luckily it’s likely only one of two problems. Either you have your settings on your e-cig too high for your atomizer head, or you need a new atomizer head.
If you’re struggling to work out the settings on your vape, pop instore and speak to one of our team of experts, or ring our customer service line at: 0161 241 2411.
Why is my atomizer gurgling?
This is the atomizer flooding. To prevent this from happening and to improve your vape experience, make sure that you don’t draw too hard, or overfill your tank. It also may be worth considering changing your atomizer if it’s getting old.
What can I do to prevent getting e-liquid in my mouth?
It’s likely that you’re not actually getting e-liquid in your mouth. Condensation can build up in the mouthpiece of your vape kit, which can then be mistaken for e-liquid. Simply give the inside a wipe with a tissue and you’re good to go.
However, if your atomizer is spitting and you actually get e-liquid coming through your mouthpiece, turn down your settings to power less heat through your atomizer’s head.
Is it normal for my atomizer to get hot?
It is completely normal for your atomizer to get hot, it’s working hard to vaporize all your e-liquid after all! If you find your atomizer is getting hot, then just put it to one side to cool for a moment before returning to your vape.
If you’re still concerned and your atomizer is becoming too hot to touch, then put it to one side to cool and get in touch with our customer service team at: 0161 241 2411
Why is my battery getting hot?
You will find that your vape kit battery gets warm when charging and with constant use, don’t fret, this is normal. However it should never be too hot to touch. If you find this happening, put it aside to cool, and give our customer service team a call at: 0161 241 2411.
